About
Like NIWA, SIWA is a collection of independent wikis focused on a specific topic, which in this case if science-fiction, or sci-fi. We too have felt that the growing number of somewhat successful wikis that have caved to outside pressure to join wikifarms, coupled with the growing problems that these wikifarms often incur (skin changes, server failures, intrusive ads) has led to a decline in desire for science fiction wikis to continue. This is also somewhat evident by many science fiction shows being cancelled (Stargate Universe, Firefly, Caprica) due to a decline in everyday viewers. This alliance seeks to help others find science fiction passion again and also to foster new interest from others.

Founding
The idea of SIWA was started by Escyos at Stargate Wiki. The first joining member was the German Stargate Wiki. Later the network was joined by the Terra Nova Wiki. On the 5th of May, 2012, the network was joined by the Defiance Wiki. The Revolution Wiki joined on June 2nd, 2012.

Concept
SIWA stands for “Sci-fi Independent Wiki Alliance” but Siwa is also the name of a large oasis in Egypt, which is symbolic for our seclusion from all the others out there and for the fact that one would, or rather should, live in such a place as opposed to the desert outside (wiki farms).
